I recommend Waterway Champions voluntary work to anyone, young and old! And here is why....

I initially wanted to do some volunteer work with 'Waterway Champions' because I hoped that it would enhance my CV having graduated in summer 09 with a science degree. However, once at the site of our river clean-up, I got chatting to the other volunteers and the leaders and had a great time!

Being outdoors was a refreshing break from writing endless cover letters and filling out application forms for jobs and internships; a little gentle exercise, fresh air and day-light made me feel much better! I meet new people; the Waterway Champion leaders were relaxed and friendly, and a helped provide a nice atmosphere. Volunteers and leaders chatted, had a laugh, and even discussed tips on job-hunting as well as the lows it can bring. Plus, being in a team, I could really see the difference we had made to the section of river we were cleaning-up. I got a great sense of satisfaction; I had helped the environment in a small, but very direct way.

In all, it was a great day out, and one I thoroughly recommend to anyone!
